City and Guilds Vocational Qualifications
City
& Guilds 'own brand' :
Whereas
national qualifications in occupational fields focus largely upon
the accumulation of skills and competences in the workplace, City
& Guilds still offer qualifications that are awarded following
more conventional courses of study. The emphasis is still placed
upon the development of relevant practical skills but study is
generally conducted within the classroom. Examinations are both
written and practical. The qualifications are placed at a specific
level, but also lead to the award of Certificates or Diplomas.
Progression
Awards (PAs) :
Other
qualifications being introduced by City & Guilds include Progression Awards,
new vocational qualifications that aim to increase occupational skills although
they contain less workplace assessment than NVQ
courses. In this manner, employees of smaller enterprises or jobseekers will
be able to follow this option if study towards NVQs
proves unfeasible.
Higher
Level Qualifications:
These are new qualifications designed to recognise
expertise at higher levels. They are designed for senior professionals
looking for a vocational route to progress their career. Candidates
can progress with City & Guilds from level 3.
